"Reaching the Pearl of Africa with the Pearl of Great Price"
Uganda Facts
Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa. It is located on the equator and is the source of the Nile River. Most of the country is situated on a 4000 foot plateau, surrounded by mountains in the east and west.

The temperature varies little from month to month. At the Entebbe airport, near the capital city of Kampala, the average daily highs are in the mid-80s F with lows in the mid-60s. (Check weather in Uganda)

Though only the size of the states of Georgia and South Carolina combined, it is home for an estimated 26 million people.

46 languages are spoken in Uganda. English is the official language.

The country’s breathtaking natural beauty inspired Sir Winston Churchill to dub it The Pearl of Africa.

The nation was ravaged by the tyrannical dictatorship of Idi Amin who slaughtered 300,000 Ugandans during his regime.

The A.I.D.S. epidemic has left a trail of orphans in its wake (nearly 1 in 12 Ugandans is an orphan).

Largely on account of A.I.D.S. epidemic the life expectancy is only 43 years.

Uganda suffers from extreme poverty. The per capita income is less than a dollar a day.

As in most of sub-Saharan Africa, the rapidly-growing church is in desperate need of qualified leaders.

Uganda is the gospel gateway to Sudan, a nation where the Church has suffered intense persecution since 1983.

Catholics remain the biggest religious denomination with 41.9% of the population, followed by the Church of Uganda (Anglican) with 35.9, Islam 12.1 percent and Pentecostals 4.6 percent.
